Strategic vs. Creative: Which Agency is Right for You?

How to Find the Right Agency for Your Rebrand

You’re growing your brand and excited about working with an agency, but do you know what kind of agency you’re really looking for?

A creative agency may be your first instinct: who doesn’t love a great logo, shiny new web assets and a fresh visual spin on things? It can feel like an easy choice, but, if you check ‘yes’ to three or more points below, your brand may be experiencing challenges that only a strategic agency can fix.

  1. Your competitive landscape has changed since you last did strategy.

  2. Your marketing message is no longer resonating.

  3. There's no equity in your brand name and customers could just as soon buy a cheaper product on Amazon.

  4. Your employees don't feel connected to your brand purpose. (Think: do you even know what your brand purpose is?)

  5. You can't answer why your brand exists (beyond selling products or services).

  6. You're constantly spending more on marketing without any change in ROI.

While some creative agencies also offer strategy, and strategy agencies offer creative (in fact, we’re one of them), it’s crucial to identify where the weak points in your brand truly are and which agency is best suited to help you with them.

Creative marketing can only take you so far. Without a strong strategy, your brand’s staying power could be at stake. Of course, you do need both, but starting without the strategy is like trying to hit a target without aiming.
