The product is top rated with ~2k five-star reviews, but the marketing message was scattered, focusing on a number of different brand attributes with no core identity or ‘center of gravity’ to bring the marketing communications together. The brand had little recognition or awareness outside of the existing (primarily male) customer base, and depended almost entirely on short-term product marketing and word of mouth to grow sales.
Through our workshop approach, we facilitated the team to define and align on their strategic positioning. We determined the monster we were fighting was bigger than just ‘razors’. Rather it extended to the broken, self-serving business models of the shaving industry with deceptive product claims and would-be ‘design innovations’ that don’t actually improve shaving results.

How Verishop first used the strategic story developed in our process to raise $40MM in “Series B” venture capital
Verishop was initially designed to instill confidence in e-commerce customers by only selling products from ‘verified’ independent merchants to address the flood of cheap, imitation luxury goods sold from counterfeit knock-off suppliers in Asia.
After initial launch, the brand pivoted into a 3-sided B2B/B2C business model. The ambition was to restore the brand and business to growth and raise additional venture capital for future expansion.
We facilitated Verishop’s leadership and cross-functional brand team through the first half of our signature Brand Identity process. The brand team aligned on challenging the ‘commodity’ and ‘transactional’ nature of e-commerce.
Differentiating itself from other e-commerce startups by creating a marketplace with more hands-on help for luxury brands, a clientele that's been mostly neglected by bigger online retailers like Amazon and Walmart.
By focusing on higher-value goods from independent and innovative retailers, the brand has established a ‘cult-like’ following among merchants, creators/influencers and their customers, earning industry accolades as a trend-setter.
They become a platform for exploration and discovery of unique, new high-quality goods you can only find online through the Verishop e-commerce platform.
Verishop now has over 4,000 brands on its platform, up from 150 at launch, making it one of largest aggregators of independent and emerging retail brands online, with more than 1 million active users per month (2021), per Khan.
